A Day In The Wild

Yesterday we loaded the Root Cellar's School Bus with drinks, sandwiches, muffins, granola bars the mission team and plenty of kids from the neighborhood! Our destination was the Maine Wild Life Park. A small wild life reserve about 30 minutes away from Portland in the town of Gray. It was quite interesting to see some of the inner-city kids facing down (from behind a fence) wild bears, Fishercats, Bobcats and Mountain Lions. It was also nice to get them away from the constraints of the city even if it was just for a little while. Most parents, of these children, don't have the means to provide such excitement for their kids. So it was a lot of fun and an extra added bonus to watch their faces light up when the big moose drew near, or when they got to feed the deer up close and personal. My favorite? The Fishercat!
